The properties of AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) are to ensure the security of supply chain by following the regulations and making partnerships between private businesses involved in international trade logistics and customs. In Japan, AEO started as a simplified customs clearance system for importers in 2001 and expanded to wide areas of trade logistics. In 2006, started for exporters, then for warehouse operators in the following year, and for customs brokers and carriers in 2008.

To be authorized as an AEO holder by customs, companies must fulfill their trade logistics duties including customs declaration and appropriate experiences based on laws and regulations, and securing these procedures within corporate structures and facilities.
